Bird Watching
Nona Rosa and surrounds boasts more than 114 species of birds. Come and experience this rich abundance of birdlife while hiking through the veld or visiting the various waterholes where various types of duck and other birds enjoy the peaceful surrounds.
Listen to the African Fish-Eagle patrolling the river or watch the African Hawk-Harrier inspecting the krantzes for a late afternoon dinner while the Malachite and other kingfishers are feasting at the waterpools.
After the rains there are numerous waterpans where Spurwinged- and Egyptian Geese and other waterbirds feed and breed.
At night you might spot the Black-crowned Night Heron, listen to the call of Barn Owl, Spotted Eagle Owl and Fierynecked Nightjar or experience them live from your vehicle while out on a night drive. The Heidelberg area also forms part of the Blue Crane Route and has some of the biggest ostrich farms in the Southern Cape .
